Freedom - Slaver Bay

First stop on our tour of the Freedom continent is Slaver Bay. The intro notecard starts with this paragraph :

“Welcome to Slaver Bay, a Kidnap Roleplay SIM with two big (RP) angles in the city: "Hornywood" a casting agency and movie studio, and "SinQuisition", the most dangerous nightclub in SL.”

While we haven’t touched upon it a lot, kidnap roleplay is popular in quite a few sims.

There is a sharp distinction between IC, in character play, and OOC, out of character communication.

Basically, if you don’t understand this distinction, heavy roleplay sims are not for you at this point.

(But don’t despair - classes are available, and we’ll cover them soon!)

You arrive in a small sky mall - yes, sim owners have to pay their tier - and a New York City Yellow Cab takes you to the streets of Slaver Bay.

The sim has a “good” dark feel and is best viewed with the world set to midnight, which is the sim standard.

There's a lot of streets leading to dark nooks and crannies in this inner-city sim. You can rezz your own vehicle, so we took a look around on a Dark Jewel chopper, seemed like the best way to stay somewhat in character.

There are quite a few live RLV traps on the sim so better beware or you’ll spend more time here than you would like.. or would you?

The rules are on notecards available in the center of the mall, and this Web site has the latest version. It points to a forum where you’ll find a lot of useful information.

Places : Freedom Continent

We hinted at Freedom last Friday. As we considered how to introduce it, we decided it was too big for a single post.

So we’ll start covering each sim over the coming weeks after this brief intro.

What is the Freedom Continent? It started as an idea by Serjourn Daxter : many isolated kinky islands were not doing so well individually, so why not gather them into a continent, and let like-minded folks who found island A simply walk into island B?

The growth was gradual, and is now snowballing nicely as sim owners are asking to join and become part of the phenomenon.

It’s not free : Linden Labs charges 100$ US to move a sim. Clearly sim owners see the benefits and make the move, recouping the expense quickly in increased visibility and traffic.

Bondage Ranch, the old meeting place for the BDSM crowd, was one of the bigger splashes in this coming-together movement. Huge stores like Think Kink and Latex Station moving in were also indicative : here’s a project that’s going places!

I took a moment to copy and paste a map of the continent - note that if you click to enlarge, the result is big. I like big maps :)

Note that Blue Spirit is a member, and simply hasn’t moved in yet.

Places - Doll Island

Doll Island is an old, well-established doll play sim, with a detailed backstory, although they emphasize that it is not necessary to know the whole thing to have fun there.

And while we were aware of the existence of the island, a friend from Rubber Room, karazorella Kytori, tipped us to a recent surge of activity, so we just had to go visit. Thanks for the tip, kara!

A good sign of age and activity is the size of the member group : over 1600 members at the time we write this.

Doll play is a huge interest in Second Life... but dolls are pretty quiet types, so you may not have heard about it ;)

When you land in the courtyard, make sure you pick up the information notecards - they’re quite detailed, and answer any questions you may have about the island, the roleplay, and where to get good doll hair. (I’m not even kidding.)

Your doll transformation can be a serious roleplay event - it’s probably a lot more interesting that way - but if you’re a Type A person who want to get there in a hurry, a free doll avatar and Dari’s “box of junk” (all her work in open source, you may remember - the box is anything but junk) are available at the info shop.

While visiting, we even ran into our old friend Asudem Kasei, encased in a magical jewel for the last two months, and no doubt pretty happy there. She mentions her predicament in her blog.

Next to the doll castle is a large mall, with many stores to help you with your dollification endeavours. I’ll just mention Hybridz and Bootgasm, but there’s much more to see, and still a bit of room for doll-related content (that’s a hint, designers!).

To sum up : if you love dolls and want to own or be one, you should visit Doll Island. I have my own rubber doll I play with, and I’m not lending her to you ;)

Latex Station - Outlet Store and Lena Catsuit

Introducing Lena, Latex Station’s latest release. I’ll let lelo give you the facts, and I’ll stick to the gossip ;)

Well, news, really : Chill3 just opened an awesome-looking outlet store, featuring her older designs, freeing the main store for her upcoming releases. (In fact, we just visited it, and it’s full... so she’s opening a second outlet next week!) As you'd expect in an outlet, prices are chopped by 50%.

As for location, it’s in the Freedom continent, a very neat place you should be aware of, and which we’ll be covering soon. Let’s just say she’s next door to Bondage Ranch and Think Kink ;)

There’s a big revamp coming to the main store as well : no more space station, and the architecture will be similar to the outlet’s.. and I have to say, I loved it at first sight. More as it develops.

We’re a fetish blog, so I’ll get back to topic : Chill3 sent me a pic of her latest release for men, called Paco, and I promised I’d show it to you even though we lost our male model. (hint hint, fellows!)

The Lena catsuit is the latest creation from Latex Station for the girls and comes in transparent, silver, red, purple, pink, orange, blue and black.

You get 3 pants options: the catsuit version Mistress is wearing, the jazz pants i’m wearing and a bathing suit option.

The texturing is very good, with well-placed highlights and some lovely laces on the front and the back.

The Lena is another attempt of Chill to get latex into mainstream clothing and i must say she did a great job, not church wear yet, but good clubbing wear any day.

Places - Darkadia

Darkadia is a neat and unusual sim. It’s based on Michael Manning’s Spider Garden and related works, and it’s beginning to take off, after some efforts and soul-searching from Mariko Demonia and her group.

The clothing store (Latex Web Inc.) provided some of the direction : by offering directly related clothing, it supports the sim and helps the roleplayers get into things.

And roleplay is the heart of Darkadia. While they have public events (a fetish party every two weeks, among others), large parts of the castle are reserved to members.

A visitor who joins the group - by invitation - is expected to participate fairly actively. No dolls standing around chewing gum with a blank stare in here ;) Members who demonstrate proficiency and good attitude go up in ranks, and gain privileges and responsibilities.

There is quite a lot to see on the sim, aside from the store. We visited the shibari room, in particular - the Japanese theme is strong all over Darkadia, and so is the unusual, as demonstrated by the lovely and strange garden created by the late Mistress Uber Stein.

This is a creative group, as well : they hold art shows, exhibitions and there is even a fashion show coming up to which, as Mariko said, two tickets were set aside for your humble bloggers ;)

The work is far from finished. Thanks to good relations with some excellent designers (some we’ve reviewed in these pages), expect to see amazing clothes and toys from Latex Web.

We also saw a very neat naiad in a very large aquarium (go look up Hydrophidian!), and a new pony cart track now surrounds the sim thanks to Mariko reading us - we report news and sometimes we make them!

A nearby club, Le Fetiche, offers a more traditional fetish experience.

If you want more than standard poseball-sitting play, Darkadia may be for you.

Places - Bound to Excite

The fame thing is kicking in - one of the readers of our blog told Yamara Valimedzic about us.

She's the club manager at a new BDSM club called Bound to Excite, and she gave us a shout. We visited, and got a grand tour by the owner, Bill Baramm.

There are several areas to the sim, so the teleporter map (shown here) is a must if you want to see everything.

The main club, called Stripped and Bound, is an underwater cavern, which is pretty unusual.

Theme-based events are held there - at our first visit, the place had Arabic decorations which were gone when we got the tour - we’re told that looks will change frequently.

The main focus of the sim is the Victorian styled village, which also hides the Mall. Bill told us that the village is based on the Victorian erotic writings, called the Pearl , which was the Victorian version of the Playboy but with more stories and fewer pictures. *winks*

Bill has great plans for this Village, wanting to bring it alive and play out scenes from the Pearl, along with a mall cleanly tucked away in period shops and a horse-riding track around it.

The Village is 2500 meters in the air so it doesn’t interfere with the beach scenes at ground level, some smart use of big prims gives you the feel that you are in a sallow valley, just don’t try to run out of town up the hill.

On sea level you’ll find the Shore Bound club, which is much more vanilla and is set beautifully on stilts in the sea, the open second level brings back memories of our old club.

A small board walk leads to one of two beaches, with on this one JET SKI rentals!!!! and more than enough water on the sim to really enjoy them.

We wish this new club luck - drop by for one of the events, we think you won’t regret it.

Places: Mesmerize Dungeon

Space stations.

It seems that half the fetish kink that happens in Second Life takes place on space stations. Personally, I blame “Buck Rogers in the 25th Century” ;)

Mesmerize Dungeon is a cool store (and a space station!) and we’ve reviewed them from way back - one of their gas masks is even in our Marquis article.

So when we dropped in to see how the new designs looked, we had a pleasant surprise : the store has also become a social spot, with 27 visitors on the sim when we arrived.

Now granted, some of those were in RLV prison in the lowest level, but there was quite a crowd in the central area.

A well-dressed crowd, too; quite a change from the jeans we frequently see at Bondage Ranch.

So if you’re looking for a new place to hang out with rubber dolls, ponies, and assorted leather goddesses, it seems Mesmerize is the new place where the cool kids hang out.

Places - Lipstickz

Lipstickz is a new women-only club, started a few weeks back by two experienced club managers, Stacy Wytchwood and Lexxxi Bailey. A third owner joined them recently, Chrissy Voir.

It has grown rapidly, in popularity and size - they’re gobbling up land and expanding fast : the club now has a nude pool and a clean little mall, and covers half the sim.

The place has a definite BDSM theme, with two well-appointed dungeons in skyboxes tucked discreetly out of the way thousands of meters in the air.

Keeping lag low is a big concern for the owners - anyone who’s waded through molasses at popular spots in SL will appreciate this.

The club itself is pretty amazing, with many areas for dancing and relaxing, rows of dance balls for that line dance thing, and a classy, distinctive look.

The focus in coming weeks will be events. No less than one party a day is the plan for the near future, with several parties a day being the ultimate goal.

When you visit, as you climb the stairs and turn right to enter the club, don’t miss the cool custom-made fetish freebies by PoC and Jinxed.

Kayliwulf : Implants Shop and Here Comes Trouble

Under the main towers of Kayliwulf Kingdom, in the center of the island, is the new Implants Shop.

A central point where the outfits and implants themselves (eBoobs and Universal Implants) can be purchased was the motivation for the shop.

The entire Fetishdoll X line will include implant textures eventually - Laz is pulling late nights to make it so.

So what can we expect from Kayliwulf? More focus on the harder/fetishier stuff, as he says, and the implants certainly fit well along those lines.

We heard more, but I won’t tell tales out of school ;) The only gossip I’ll share for now is a surprise appearance of Laz as DJ this Saturday at 3PM SL... We’ll be there!

Places - House of V

Once again, a big place we almost overlooked. I’m going to stop apologizing and just get to them as soon as we can, ok? ;)

House of V is one of the oldest fetish clubs in SL : four years is pretty darned remarkable, for any type of club!

House of V is primarily focused on D/s and BDSM, yet one of its stated goals is to make everyone feel welcome and safe.

A “protected sub” program offers mentors to those new to the lifestyle, so they can learn without worry of predators. While it’s tempting for experienced D/s folks to dismiss such things, there really are people who take advantage of gullible beginners.

The club endeavours to keep a live DJ stream up 24/7, and has recently introduced live music events which are advertised through the membership and friends of House of V groups.

The Members Days on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays let the friends of House of V and gold members claim any non member or eligible staff for 30 minutes of play. Keep the days in mind before dropping in if you don’t want surprises ;)

A densely-packed mall (reminds me of a souk!) at the foot of the club supplies the visitors with the little extras that spice up play ;)

Places - Venustus

Venustus is one of our regular hangouts : it’s gorgeous and peaceful.

It’s also a lesbian sim; that is, it’s for women only - male avatars get ejected on sight.

Fetish and BDSM are welcome - some humorous “Caution BDSM” signs have recently been added here and there near the main building.

Venustus is an old place. It was established in 2008, and grew over time to take over the entire sim.

It has changed looks a few times over the years, as the owner is an enthusiastic builder.

The staff is friendly and helpful, the security is very good - we’ve never even *seen* trouble.

And unlike strip clubs, there are no one-prim-penis noobs around ;)

There are regular events : Kayliwulf Kingdom is in every other Friday (next visit is June 11th!), and XTC Leather is also over regularly.

Even outside of the scheduled events, the club is usually busy, mostly focused around the dance floor.

A mall surrounds the club, full of fetish stores. There is ample seating outside the main building for snuggling and chatting. A lovely little beach offers a quiet corner for same.

Some very clean beach-front condos surround the island, separated from the club by a beautiful “lagoon”.

We love everything about Venustus : the look, the staff, the atmosphere, the visitors.. I swear, the average night sees better fetishwear than Bondage Ranch does.

Kayliwulf Kingdom - Glass Slipper

We received a notice Saturday.. some pretty exciting news for shoe fetishists, I'd say :

Glass Slipper is a nice little store, set in a cool snowy region. Once inside, everything is in easy reach - no need to fly from one end of the store to the other.

B-Squared - Black Widow - Mistress Outfit

B-Squared sent us this lovely outfit some time back, called Black Widow, and it's time to run it.

It's another of these multi-layered jobbies : 21 parts in the box, not counting landmark and notes.

The net shirt is absolutely gorgeous, and will probably be part of some of my regular outfits for a while.

The corset is available in under or overbust version, with the lack bra available alone - mix and match heaven.

All I'm wearing here, then, is on the bra and shirt layer, leaving the jacket layer free for you to complement to your taste.

Three different pairs of latex gloves, and some good-looking zippered tights complete the outfit.

An excellent value considering the number of parts and options you get.

While we were checking out the shop we also gave the sim a look and it's worth a good long second look.

First thing that caught our eyes was the Dari Haus shop across the street. (For those of you who missed the story behind Dari's Haus, better follow this link.)

If you are still looking for the Dari box of (free!!!) toys it's still in the Dari store.

The sims Deadly and Deadly Drama are owned by Miryam Robson, who we met while looking around.

The sims feature a great little fetish mall, a club, a castle with all kinds of BDSM equipment and a nice garden on the north side of the sims.

Small word of warning, or advertisment.. Deadly is a strictly FemDom place and males are forced to be submissives.

Pony Places: Island of Questionable Virtues

Questionable Virtues is a purpose-built island for ponyplay. And a wonderful one it is, too.

The whole sim has a Mediterranean beach side resort feel to it, and even the rental homes there continue this theme with good effect.

On first landing on the island, immediately on your left (if you land facing the same way I did anyway) there is a dressage field. Perfect to get right on with some practise.

Rental homes to your right and in front of you, and a steeple course just beyond the dressage make sure you don't forget this is a pony sim.

Head north from the landing point, past the dressage and you enter the stable area and slalom courses. If you are quick, my time is still on the slalom score board - in top place!

Now that I've said that, no doubt I will be bumped off the list in short order.

Next to the slalom are some pony walkers, and a bench in case you need to sit down - a great thought.

Some of the stalls in the stable block are reserved for pony residents, however empty ones are freely available for the use of guests.

Heading north from the stable, passing a pony wash area takes you past the entrance to the steeple.

Continuing along this path takes you past a door under a mountain to a small uncluttered dungeon.

Beyond this is a dark Gothic church and a training academy to help improve one's erotic role play skills. Nice touch and some people could really benefit from that.

(Green chat spamming genitals spring to mind?) Next to the academy is Club Desolation, home of "Pony slut Radio". How can you not love this?

A photo studio rests next door to the club and a little exploration to the south takes you to the market area with almost exclusively pony items, and then to the beach.

A quick elevator ride up the mountain will take you to the meeting place of the SL Ponygirls Club if you cross the narrow bridge, or to a lovely communal informal area to lounge in the sun.

All around the island the pathways are good and straight and wide, allowing for plenty of excuses to hitch a pony to a cart to admire the scenery.

QV is a lovely place to relax with your pony, I am just surprised the island is as quiet as it is. Though that is a bonus when you wish to relax or escape lag.

This is one of those sims you simply must visit.

Places - The Little Shop Of Kink

A while back, our friend Kat Fetisov of KCreations called us over to visit her new location, a cool little mall called Little Shop of Kink.

We met the owner, Tess Whitcroft, and watched the place fill up with neat fetish and bondage stores... well, now is the time to tell you about it :)

The mall part is under the two main domes (which I affectionately refer to as "the boobies").

As a little reminder, KCreations' freebie boxes are there, with latex Tattoo Layer skins for the Second Life beta viewer. Kat is nothing if not bleeding-edge!

There is more there than just a mall, though. A nice teleporter sign post will take you to the places of interest.

An art gallery is currently showing some fun Golden Age bondage-themed comic-book covers, and some lovely black and white art.

A small, intimate dance club is available if you want to dance or sit and socialize. The decor is very cool and futuristic.

There is a little park/playground with a number of cages to leave your slave for a while *winks*

The Laboratory (a sky box 278m in the air) is perfect for doll play, and features some great toys.

A third boobie, the Bondarium, is not yet finished (as you can tell by the missing nipple). The name is pretty suggestive, however.

Definitely worth visiting.

Places - Rubber Room

We decided at the beginning of 2010 that we'd make an effort to cover more places, even though there just aren't that many good fetish spots around.

Well, the Rubber Room is a really good fetish club.

It's been around for quite a while, as clubs go : the owner, Rubber Robonaught, opened 10 months ago.

Rubber Room is quite active : there are daily parties at 2PM and 6PM SLT, regular sponsored events, and a nice fetish crowd in the club a lot of the time.

The fixed landing zone plops you above a mall with numerous fetish stores. Malls support clubs : do take a moment to shop around ;)

From there you click on large teleporter signs downstairs, and head to the club, or its associated play space, the MGM dungeon.

The dungeon is run by Master Gary Millet, and features serious roleplay and RLV-enabled bondage devices. It is open to everyone.

The club is home to a number of rubberdolls, and there's nothing quite like seeing a half-dozen dolls sitting around sofas or dancing together in gas masks, VvB Boots and assorted gear... not a pair of jeans in sight ;)

The staff is friendly, the management is helpful and pleasant.. there's a lot to like at this club, aside from the obvious.

Rubber Room is quite a find, and fast becoming one of our favorite spots. See you there!

Places - The Dominion Femdom

We haven't covered a place in ages, and while shopping is good, there *is* Second Life outside of stores.

The Dominion Femdom is such a place - but don't worry, shopaholics, they have a good mall.

We've covered the group and blog in a previous post, but instead of just slapping a "places" tag on an old post, we decided to add more info - including a lovely group gift.

This is where this post started, really : we received a notice from the FEMDOM Group (which is an association of 12 femdom groups including Dominion), about the gift.

It's really quite generous : a bunch of latex pants, corsets, and shoes, in a variety of colors.

Also included : a FEMDOM group spanking paddle, and all the Femdom Magazines to date. Just join the group, and click the sign to receive the gift box.

So, the Dominion : a group of nine islands, some dedicated to the group, some residential, all devoted to female domination.

As we said, a very active group - it's not uncommon to see two or three events in a day.

Pony Places: Frilly Filly Farm

Frilly Filly Farm was the first stable I visited upon arriving in SL, and is the one where I have spent the most time.

Since my initial arrival, the farm has changed much, and yet it still holds a special place in my heart.

Obviously, this does mean my comments may be a little biased in favor of FFF, but that is no reason why you shouldn't go and check it out for yourself.

It has a lovely layout with a cart trail leading you all the way around the sim's edge, giving a fantastic tour if you are lucky enough to have a ponygirl and a cart nearby.

FFF has a relaxed atmosphere, making it a great place for new and nervous ponies to get the feel for it and find their hooves.

Having said that, there is a new "strict pony" training course, and ponies enrolled on this are not able to even leave their stall without a trainer.

All the usual facilities are at FFF, including slalom, 3 steeple courses of varying difficulty, the barrel racing and also a racetrack for the carts.

A long, twisting ramp in the sky takes you to a separate set of fields with the aim of reducing lag.

You will also pass a puppy area on the way up.

Add to that a large, well-stocked tack shop in a neighboring sim, and there is also a new, separate sim with the more competitive ponies in mind.

Lots of cart rezzing vendors are available at key locations and a lovely landscaped lake and stream pass through the farm.

Put simply, no matter how much time I have spent at FFF, I still feel drawn there.

If you are conducting a whistle-stop tour of the pony stables, it just is not complete without a visit to FFF.

And if you see a pony or trainer standing idly by, say hello to them. I did and i made some wonderful friends that day.

Upon arriving at the main Forum landing site, you will see a teleporter nearby. It's a neat chair style.

Destinations are ForumHub, Sky Hub, Library, Tree House, Stables, Hippodrome, FreeBi Island, and Palm Beach.

Take the chair to the stables, this will take you to an above ground stable area, complete with steeplechase, dressage area and pony walker.

There is also quite an extensive block of stalls for the ponies.

Numerous paths lead out of the stable block, taking you to yet more dressage and steeple areas, barrel racing and slalom areas and passing a wonderful Gothic building with numerous dance balls dotted around.

At the entrance to this building are pony troughs and leashing posts so you can park your pony and cart and have a little dance with a friend or loved one.

A little further on is an oval arena for cart races with room for many spectators reminiscent of a roman gladiatorial arena.

Opposite the entrance of which is a lovely lunge training (whip training) circle.

Walking along the perimeter of the arena, there are plenty of rest points to give your pony a drink.

And if you have a firm seat in your cart, a chance to sit on something different for a while.

For the more adventurous, and more energetic, there are ramp ways down from the pony fields.

Thankfully with a few places to stop and get your breath back, including at about the halfway point, a castle.

This is a 500m climb from ground to the stable area, so the rest stops are certainly going to be a welcome break in the climb.

And the climb, or ride down, is definitely worth it.

Some breathtaking scenery, secret cuddle or dance spots and benches or pony troughs show how well thought out the whole of Forum's Sala sim is designed with the pony experience in mind.

SheMale Sextravaganza

SheMale Sextravaganza is a bright and cheerful sex club, run by twins Eve and Eva Fhloston.

They made it so one "can come and explore themselves and others in a friendly and fun place", in Eve's words.

The shemale theme is explicit; the 10-meter high pictures on the walls are pretty graphic.

The ground floor has a bar, dance floor and a couple of snuggle couches. Upstairs, you'll find all the toys and adult poses you'll ever need. An alley outside provides a seedier location for play if your tastes run in that direction.

Next to the club is a good-looking little boutique mall with a fountain and a very clever pond.

The "Bloodlines" pyramid scheme - and it is nothing else - is explicitly banned, as it is in more and more places.

There is a teleporter which gives access to a little beach, a romantic star room (hidden behind some 1960's spirals) and the threesome room, which has a great theme.. just give it a look you'll love it.

A nice touch of humor is provided by a bunch of "unemployed Lindens" hanging around the place - artificial avatars, serving as group inviters and such.

There is no charge for all this - but like everywhere, tipping is appreciated. The tip jar is the rainbow squiggly thing at the bottom of the stairs.
